I made it to Marseille! My family drove me down to the cities last Thursday and I met my teammate Chrissy and Linda (who's Canadian and is working with us in Marseille) at the airport on Friday. We met my other teammate Christine in Washington D.C. and then flew over to Frankfurt, Germany and then to Marseille, France. Matt, a local pastor, met us at the airport on Saturday morning and drove us to the building where we're living. We were all so exhausted at that point, but had to stay up and go shopping for bedding, cell phones, etc. to make the transition better and get over jet-lag quicker.
On Sunday, we caught the bus, got on the Metro, then took another bus to go to church. It was all in French, so I couldn't understand much, but I caught a few things which made me happy. I can't wait until I can speak with and understand people! (We start language school on Tues. and will be going 3 hrs./4 days a week through February.) After church, we went over to Matt and his wife Christy's house for a barbecue. This was not a traditional American barbecue (we are in France after all!). First we had an appetizer, then soup, then meat (lamb and beef), then salad, then 3 types of cheese and baguettes and finally dessert (which was an assortment of little pastries). It was so good! Thankfully our meal lasted for over 2 hours. Otherwise, my stomach probably would have exploded.

On Monday, we went out for a tour of the city to get a little more acquainted with where we'll be living for the next 13 months. It is very beautiful here! It will be an adjustment to not be able to hop in a car and drive to get to where I need to go and instead have to figure out public transportation. But, you can get almost anywhere in the city by bus, tram, metro or walking.

On Wednesday night, we went to Evolution 13, which is led by Matt and consists of worship, a message with fellowship and pizza afterwards. It takes place in Cours Julien, which is the arts district of Marseille. I've met a lot of new people this past week and am sure I will meet a lot more throughout internship. So exciting!

Thank you so much for your prayers as I transition! I hope to update my blog every other week or so.
Peace and Joy,
Claire Faith
