Thailand Trip Report!
Well, going to Thailand was definitely an adventure. I would say once-in-a-lifetime adventure, but who knows what God has in store for me in the future. :)
It was my first time experiencing over-seas missions. It was really cool to see what the internship program, that I may go on for 16 months starting the beginning of Junior year, looks like. It was also cool to see another culture and people.
I'm so grateful for the experience and reminded how short-sighted and selfish I really am. If it was up to me, I probably would've not signed up for this trip. It didn't really peak my interest at first. But, is my interest really the most important thing? No. God didn't force me to go, but he certainly gave me a nudge. And, as usual, it worked out really well. (Most of His ideas and plans do.)
I'll share some experiences from one of the days that I spent during the trip...
One day, we drove about an hour to Sri Ngam School, which had invited us to come do an English camp before the kids got out for summer break. The people who we partnering with for this ministry said that it was a real blessing that they invited us to come, and even said it was fine if we prayed for the kids. This was a big deal, because to be Thai is to be Buddhist; there was even a Buddha statue on the stage where we shared the gospel with the kids (there was between 80 and 100 kids). It was a real joy to work with the kids all day, although it was hot and humid and it was challenging to communicate with the kids because only a few of them spoke English. We did have a few people who translated, but for 1-on-1 conversations, it was a little harder. But the kids seemed to enjoy teaching us some Thai and laughing when we mispronounced words.
Another cool thing about the day at the school is that God reminded me of his calling on my life: To missions and working with children. Although I don’t know all the details of how this will pan out, I have to trust that God has a plan for me, and because I know of his deep love for me, I can choose to obey him in whatever he calls me to in the future.
